Curriculum

St. Paul’s Christian School is committed to the developmental needs of children and encourages growth in all areas: physical, emotional, social, intellectual and spiritual.  Our classes stress learning through play and socialization through a wealth of “hands on” activities.  We strive to provide each child with a foundation which furthers learning and where a maturing faith can grow.

Our school utilizes a play-based curriculum called "Beyond Centers and Circle Time."  It allows all students extended time with the following activities.

  • Dramatic Play: dress-up, housekeeping, home-living, grocery store, restaurant, puppets, etc.

  • Construction Play: unit blocks, legos, lincoln logs, linking cubes, etc.

  • Fluid Play: sand and water play, fingerpainting, easel painting, play-doh, writing and drawing, sensory experiences, etc.

  • Reading Readiness Activities: sorting, classifying, stringing beads, lacing cards, letter recognition activities, letter/sound activities, graphing, writing experiences, Big Book shared stories, rhyming activities, etc.

The curriculum is based on 25 years of research with young children.  All of these activities allow young children to grow and expand developmentally torwards being ready to read, write and do math functions.  Each activity is geared to be appropriate for a wide range of developmental levels that students in any one class may have.  Teachers spend time daily assessing each student's developmental stage and then assisting them with activities that will help to extend them forward.

All of our classes teach introductory lessons in American Sign Language as well as an individually designed Christian Curriculum which introduces and focuses on concepts such as Love, Forgiveness, God’s Creation, etc.

Music

All of our students participate in daily music activities in the classroom as well as a weekly Music time with our Music Director.  3, 4, and 5-year olds present Christmas and End-of-the-Year music programs for parents.  All of our students participate in a “Halloween Parade and Sing” and a “Thanksgiving Sing and Feast.”
